3M™ THINSULATE™

THINSULATE™ insulation works by trapping air molecules between you and the outside. The more air a material traps in a given space, the greater its insulating value. Because the microfibers in Thinsulate™ Insulation are finer than other fibers, they trap more air in less space, which naturally makes it a better insulator.

Comfortable, not waterproof it seems

"Been wearing these a few months. . comfortable from the get go, now its winter, my feet are getting damp/wet, so not great, I usually buy cheaper boots but bought good expensive ones cause I figured they would be better waterproofing, so a little disappointing about that. . i like the boots otherwise. You still need traction aids on ice."

Lasted one week

"The ankle support collapsed after one week, such that the heel guard was digging in to my ankle with every step. As a result, the boots are unwearable. Kodiak won't honour the warranty bc I bought the boots from a discount retailer. I think they should still stand behind the quality of their workmanship. I now have to find new boots for winter asap. I will never buy Kodiak again and tell the same to all my co-workers!"

6 inch version of these boots are great

"Now if I had had to pay full price, these would probably be a 4 star but since I didn't these are a 5++. I can't attest to how the 8 inch version of these boots feel on my ankle, or how they feel going up my leg, but the 6 inch ones feel great. I have 2 pairs and they both feel the same. The arctic grip does work. It probably saved me from at least 2 potential slip and falls. My feet don't get as warm in these indoors as I would have thought which I guess that's a good thing. The 6 inch ones are rated for -30 celsius with 200 grams of Thinsulate. The 8 inch ones have 400 grams of thinsulate and rated at -40 celsius. I'd say with the 6 inch version your feet are warm to -15 celsius and might possibly be comfortable(not cold but not warm) at -30. I guess it depends on how you rate "comfort". I never had the chance to experience deep cold where I was this winter. If the 8 inch ones are similar enough to the 6 inch ones, don't expect warmth at -40. Probably warmth to -25. They are waterproof and hold up well in shallow puddles and deep snow. The ortholite comfort foam makes these more comfortable than other Kodiaks. I always felt these were more comfortable right out of the box and were good within a day. I wish Kodiak would put it in more boot models. The toe box isn't wide and if it was made wider, I probably could have gotten a size 9. These are true to size but I got a half size bigger due to the overall toe space and how the tightness would have rubbed on my pinky toe."

"Take a half size bigger, its NOT a wide fit either. Comfortable for all day wear."

Q&A

Are the Ice Conquerer winter safety boots warm enough when standing outside in -35°C Canadian winters?
This boot has been tested at a 3rd-party laboratory and has been rated down to -40°C. However, keep in mind that temperature ratings are affected by how active you are. If you are standing still, you may feel the cold more quickly than if you are walking or being active.
